eVoter Expects to Reach 100,000 Illinois Primary Voters by Election Day

eVoter Expects to Reach 100,000 Illinois Primary Voters by Election Day

Steadily increasing web traffic offers unprecedented opportunity for Illinois primary candidates

CHICAGO, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ — eVoter, the first online destination where candidates, voters and endorsing organizations connect, expects to reach 100,000 Illinois primary voters by Election Day on February 2.

According to Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies, owners and operators of eVoter, traffic to the website is spiking in the last week before the Illinois primary election.

eVoter is a non-partisan website that allows voters to locate their polling place, generate and print a customized ballot, and donate to campaigns. In addition to the voter tools, candidates can purchase and customize an online profile, and endorsing organizations can widely publicize their candidate endorsements for a low cost.

“We are capturing a lion’s share of the search traffic, and expect this increase to continue through the election,” said Kravitz. “In January, we’ve seen close to a 700 percent increase from the previous month, which means voters are coming to the site in great numbers to find their polling places, print their ballots and learn about the candidates. For candidates looking to make a connection with real voters in the last days before the election, we’re offering an unprecedented opportunity.”

Since its launch in November, eVoter has had more than 56,000 Illinois voters visit the site due to a highly targeted marketing campaign, noted Kravitz.

Visits to eVoter.com are numbering approximately 4,000 per day and growing with over 280,000 page views and more than 32,000 ballots rendered. Statewide candidates have already had views from approximately 28,000 voters per party on eVoter.

“eVoter is where voters are going to research their election information,” said Philip Muller, president of Political Technologies. “As the primary campaigns come down to the wire, a candidate profile is a great way to get their message to motivated voters, thousands of which are visiting the site every day.”

Illinois, which has the nation’s first primary election in 2010, is the first state where eVoter is available. Political Technologies plans to roll out the service to more than a half-dozen states by the 2010 general election and all 50 states by 2012.

To purchase an eVoter profile, candidates and organizations can visit http://www.evoter.com, or call (866) 976-0555.

State Capitol Q&A Illinois primary also a test of new eVoter Web site Springfield, IL The State Journal Register

In Illinois, In the News, Posts by State or Region, Print and Online Articles on January 26, 2010 at 9:00 am

eVoter Expects to Reach 100,000 Illinois Primary Voters by Election Day

THE STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER

With the Feb. 2 primary election fast approaching, a Florida-based company is pushing a Web site to get Illinois voters prepared for the polls.

EVoter.com says it’s a non-biased online resource for ballot information on state and local races. Because of its early primary, Illinois is the first state getting a test run of the site.

This week’s State Capitol Q&A takes a look at what eVoter.com offers to candidates, organizations and voters.

Q: What is eVoter.com’s background?

A: The Web site was created by Political Technologies LLC and has been running since last November.

“The idea is that not only can (voters) get information on the candidates, but it’s a way to help organizations and (candidates) get out their message in a cost-effective manner,” CEO Adam Kravitz said.

Kravitz said voters can use their home addresses to search for sample ballots. The site also provides more information on candidates with registered profiles.

Voters casting sample ballots are alerted if they don’t vote for the right number of candidates or undervote. This February primary is the first time that voting machines statewide will kick back ballots with undervotes.

The site also offers candidates more opportunities to spread their messages. For a fee, the site lets candidates create and manage profiles. They can include links to videos and other Web sites along with endorsement announcements.

Q: Who can register on the Web site, and how much does it cost?

A: Both candidates and organizations can create profiles and list endorsements there. So far, 10 organizations have registered, ranging from the Illinois Federation of Teachers to the Illinois Sierra Club Political Action Committee.

A candidate must pay $100 to create a profile on the Web site, but that drops to $10 in state or township committee races. Each candidate is responsible for providing the content in his or her profile.

Kravitz said fees are based on the volume of candidates throughout the state.

Q: What does a candidate’s profile look like?

A: Most profiles contain the candidate’s photo, party affiliation, campaign statement, a list of endorsements and a biography. Some include links to a personal campaign Web site, news articles or videos.

Each profile includes a link for visitors to donate money to the candidate. Other links let people share the profile with others, voice support for the candidate or send a private message.

Q: How many candidates have profiles?

A: More than 50 candidates have created profiles on eVoter.com, including eight of the 13 lieutenant governor candidates.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn and Republican Dan Proft are the only gubernatorial candidates with registered profiles. Quinn’s campaign communications manager, Elizabeth Austin, said Web site officials approached them about creating a profile earlier this month.

Austin said traffic on Quinn’s own campaign Web site went up after the eVoter profile was posted.

“I think we all realize that it’s very important to reach out to voters not only through traditional media, but through new media as well,” she said. “This was an opportunity to do that in a very focused way.”

Other statewide candidates with profiles include Justin Oberman, a Democratic candidate for state treasurer, Secretary of State Jesse White and Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

Oberman originally was unaware of the site when asked about it by a reporter. But the next day, his campaign information was uploaded.

Q: How many people have used the site?

A: Kravitz said the site gets thousands of hits each day, and more than 10,000 ballots have been printed out since November. The company hopes to reach 100,000 voters with Illinois information and expand the site nationwide this year.

Champaign County Clerk Mark Shelden said he had initial concerns about problems with ballot errors on the site, but those were quickly corrected. He’s still worried that copycats could put a political slant on eVoter’s effort.

“It’s a slippery slope that, as an election official, I’m not real thrilled to go down,” he said. “There are certainly people who are less ethical than the eVoter folks that might use these tools in a way that wouldn’t be good for voters.” Source: http://www.sj-r.com/state/x231958180/State-Capitol-Q-A-Illinois-primary-also-a-test-of-new-eVoter-Web-site

Get Your Customized Illinois Sample Ballot Here – Chicago Sun-Times

In Illinois, In the News, Print and Online Articles on January 6, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Chicago Sun-Times / eVoter Service:
By Lynn Sweet on January 6, 2010 8:03 AM

A new Chicago Sun-Times web tool, powered by eVoter.com, will put all Illinois voters only one click away from finding out the names of candidates on their ballots for the Feb. 2 primary election, from the top of the ticket to the most local contest. To get started, look at the right side of my blog for a widget headlined “2010 Illinois Primary.”

This is a web tool that will make it much easier and faster for a person to be part of the civic and political process, which in Illinois is confusing, especially for first-time voters.

All you have to do is type in any address in Illinois–and out will come a listing of your polling location and a sample ballot for the Democratic, Republican and Green parties. You don’t have to know more than that to get started. Illinois has the nation’s leadoff 2010 primary; early voting starts Monday and absentee balloting is already underway.

The voter registration deadline for the Feb. 2 primary closed Tuesday. You can also get information and links about where to apply for an absentee ballot on the site. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot by mail is Jan. 28.

Under Illinois law, a voter has to pick one party in order to participate in the nomination process. The system means a person cannot vote in the Democratic primary for a Senate candidate and then switch to the GOP primary for the governor race. Each voter has potentially dozens of candidates in a variety of offices to consider.

While I bet most people know there are big Senate, House and gubernatorial primaries, even ardent activists usually are not on top of who is running in a judicial sub-circuit race.

For the first time, a voter can easily look up their options without hassle.

The sample ballot look-up is a non-partisan service, provided by the Sun-Times in partnership with eVoter.com. The candidate listings on the sample ballot are free and include everyone who is running.

The Sun-Times/eVoter.com partnership also has a commercial side, providing candidates and organizations with new paid media political communication tools.

The hyperlinks are paid for by candidates or organizations and can lead to candidate websites or endorsement lists and contribution information.

I know from past reporting that there is voter fall-off near the bottom of the ticket; voters sometimes just don’t want to vote for candidates and offices they have not focused on–or never knew about.

I talked Tuesday with Adam Kravitz, the CEO of Political Technologies, LLC, owners and operators of eVoter. The Sun-Time/eVoter feature provides “a strong opportunity for down ballot candidates to get noticed. …the idea is to increase participation in down ballot races,” Kravitz said.

With the web, voters have more opportunity to become informed than ever before. But with the myriad of races facing Illinois voters, it hard to know sometimes where to begin. I suggest a starting point is to type in your address on the “2010 Illinois Primary” widget, and look over your sample ballot.

Sun-Times, eVoter Team for Online Election Center – Sun-Times Business

In Illinois, In the News, Print and Online Articles on January 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm

January 5, 2010 by Sun-Times staff

For the first time, the Sun-Times and its sister papers will provide readers an online election center, through eVoter.com, where they can do everything from check out candidates’ backgrounds and endorsements to donate to their campaigns.

Sun-Times Media LLC and eVoter announced a partnership today that links Illinois voters to election information, candidate profiles and organization endorsements in preparation for Illinois’ Feb. 2 primary election.

EVoter allows voters to locate their polling place, generate and print a customized ballot, access an absentee ballot, look up endorsements from registered organizations, and donate to campaigns.

In addition to the voter tools, candidates can purchase and customize an online profile, and organizations can publicize their candidate endorsements for a fee.

Searches on the co-branded sites will highlight candidates endorsed by the editorial staffs of the Sun-Times Media’s newspapers.

EVoter.com said the nonpartisan site is the first online destination where voters, candidates and endorsing organizations make direct connections. Visitors can view all the races for which they can vote, including governor and U.S. Senator, county officials and even precinct committeeman in the suburban and Downstate counties where such party positions are on the ballot.

Through the partnership, Sun-Times Media will provide direct links from each of its newspaper Web sites to co-branded voter information services powered by eVoter. During the campaign season, eVoter will power a search field on each of Sun-Times Media’s Web sites that allows voters to search for more information quickly on a specific candidate or race.

“Now, when voters turn to any of Sun-Times Media’s Web sites to catch up on the latest local election news, they’ll also have easy access to the powerful election resources provided by eVoter,” said Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies LLC, owners and operators of eVoter. “This is an exciting new service that is unique to voters in Illinois.”

Illinois is the first state where eVoter is available. Political Technologies plans to provide the service in more than a half-dozen states by the 2010 general election and all 50 states by 2012.

New eVoter.com Offers All Candidates For Races Statewide – Daily Herald

In Illinois, In the News, Print and Online Articles on January 1, 2010 at 9:00 am

By Anna Marie Kukec | Daily Herald Columnist

A nonpartisan Web site focuses on the Feb. 2 Primary in Illinois, offering voters a complete list of candidates statewide – from major offices to neighborhood positions – along with candidate information, endorsements and volunteer information.

It’s one of the latest Web sites designed to give voters more information. Dailyherald.com soon will launch an online guide to all races important to suburban voters, including candidates’ unfiltered statements on a number of important issues.

The Miami-based eVoter.com intends to cover more states by late 2010. The site now has all races throughout Illinois for federal, state and local candidates and links them with voters and endorsing groups.

All 7,147 candidates are searchable in various ways, including office, name or ballot. But only the candidates with profiles are interactive, said Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies LLC, owners and operators of eVoter.com.

“It’s like a dating site because candidates pay a fee and they have to make an effort to fill out the information,” Kravitz said. Candidates and endorsing groups pay a fee, while the site is free to voters.

Friends and family helped Kravitz invest in eVoter.com, since he had Web experience for more than five years as a director at jDate.com for Jewish singles. Since then, Kravitz aimed to do another Web site and focused on voters.

If you’re a voter, you can go to the Web site, type in your address, and see a map with your location and polling place. You then can review a list of ballots for Republican, Democrat and other party candidates for your area. You also could access absentee ballot forms or generate and print a customized list to take with you inside the polling booth.

The site, which provides updates on Twitter and Facebook, also offers you a link to donate or volunteer for a campaign. It also allows candidates to send direct messages to voters and link to videos or Web sites, such as YouTube, Kravitz said.
